Photography is a medium I choose to help express an underlying quality of a place at the same time mirroring my own sub-conscious. When I photograph I spend a period of time within that space, it allows me to see past the obvious and gain a deeper connection to the subject. The initial recording is an intuitive experience; I am aware of the minds constant bombardment to one’s senses and try to quieten any logical explanations at that period. I immerse myself into the landscape and photograph what I am drawn to. It is only with postproduction that I start to reflect and conclude my time within the space. Questions and insights come to surface, which inform my edit.
I have always been fascinated by Psychology and I find working in the way I do I gain a deeper understanding of myself through my work. I find that photography helps me step out of the rational mind and allows my sub-conscious to intuitively react; this projects a sense of self onto the world, and is thus mirrored back through the image. I believe it is not so much the subject matter that informs you but the emotive response one connects too while experiencing these images. There is a meditate quality that keeps you looking even though you’ve seen.

I want my work to not only touch the soul but to translate it. I find that keeping integrity to the way I work somehow captures an essence of a feeling, which I hope translates to the viewer.
